Why do people become obese, and why is lasting weight loss so difficult? Alan Saltiel, director of the U-M Life Sciences Institute and a world-renowned researcher of obesity, diabetes, and other metabolic disorders, will lecture on the science of obesity, exploring how obesity causes myriad health problems and why it is so hard to treat. Saltiel will also discuss recently discovered potential treatments including amlexanox, an anti-obesity drug currently in clinical trials at U-M.

This event is part of the LSI's 2013-14 Follow the Science
