Applied Physics Seminar | When Ultrasound meets the Clinic

Dr.Oliver D. Kripfgans, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Radiology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

The medical use of ultrasonography dates back to the 1950/60s. It changed from water tank immersion of subjects to wearable devices. As the use of ultrasound approaches the point-of-care setting its use becomes more and more specialized. In this presentation we will explore two such specializations. At first we will learn about use of ultrasound as a biomarker for the quantification of blood flow through major veins and arteries. In a second example we will see its potential use in dental offices where ultrasound is currently used as a therapeutic modality but not for imaging.
