In Into the Woods, the brilliant Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine take us to a magical, bewildering place full of witches, wolves, giants, and mysterious strangers. Here, wishes come true, but at a price. The story opens with the characters professing their desires, at the heart of which is baker and his wife longing to have a child. In order to do so, the witch sends them on a journey through the woods. Here, they cross paths with familiar fairytale characters, each chasing their own desires and learning their own lessons. As we witness the consequences of their wishes, we’re forced to reckon what we owe to those around us.
