Presented By: Donia Human Rights Center
Donia Human Rights Center and Weiser Diplomacy Center Lecture | Addressing Human Rights and Democracy: The Challenges and Opportunities for Business
Michael Posner - Jerome Kohlberg Professor of Ethics and Finance, NYU Stern School of Business
In his book Conscience Incorporated: Pursuing Profits while Protecting Human Rights https://myumi.ch/JPnR4, Michael Posner examines the evolving role of large multinational companies in addressing human rights challenges tied to their business models, in global supply chains, in the tech sector and among investors. In the first part of this talk he will reflect on these topics. Posner also will address the crisis in democracy in the United States and in many parts of the world. Today societies are increasingly polarized, fueled in part by social media and now artificial intelligence. Posner will examine this, the potential for business leaders to support democratic norms and the rule of law, and why they have been reluctant to exert it.
