Parenting a Pre-Schooler
Tips for Academic, Emotional, and Social Success
As part of the IHA's Adjustment Matters panel discussions, experts from the University Center for the Child and the Family (UCCF) will answer questions about the meaning of children's behavioral/school difficulties in early childhood, and attendees will learn more about the importance of choosing the right school setting for their child.
This event will run from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. on October 17, 2013.
Sample Questions:
1) My child resists going to pre-school every day and says she doesn't like school. What should we do?
2) My son was born in September. Now that the State of Michigan is changing the cut-offs for kindergarten, how do we decide if he is ready to start school, or if we should consider a pre-K program?
3) My pre-schooler is tantrumming at home every day at bedtime. Help! How can we be firm but loving parents at the same time?
4) I'm concerned about my child's social development. She has difficulty communicating and making friends. How can we help her to develop strong friendships?
Panel: Helen Kaplan, LMSW, Anu Agrawal, LMSW, Larry Kowalski, MS, Fiona Miller, PhD, Cynthia Ewell Foster, PhD
