Ann Arbor Japan Week 2026 | Sakura Instrumental Group and Kyoko Fujii Calligraphy Performance
Sakura Instrumental Group; Calligraphy Artist Kyoko Fujii
Immerse yourself in the vibrant cultural tapestry of Japan with the Sakura “Cherry Blossom” Japanese Instrumental Group. Experience the enchanting world of the Shishimai Lion dance, a traditional folk art passed down through generations, which brings the magic of Japanese folklore to life. The presentation will also feature Shodō calligraphy artist Kyoko Fujii, who will create traditional Japanese calligraphy using an extraordinarily large-sized washi paper and brush, accompanied by traditional festival music. Please enjoy this powerful and dynamic collaboration, concluding with a celebratory summer Bon Dance. Simple moves will be demonstrated, which can be performed sitting or standing, to the festive beats of our drums.
