Deaf Professionals and Communication Access in the Workplace
This presentation explores the vital role of Deaf professionals and the importance of communication access in the workplace. It will examine the growing presence of Deaf individuals in professional fields, particularly as accessibility, legal protections, and educational opportunities have expanded over time. Participants will also consider challenges Deaf professionals may encounter, including communication barriers, workplace accessibility gaps, and common misconceptions about Deafness.
In addition, the presentation will highlight how American Sign Language (ASL) has evolved as Deaf professionals have entered new and specialized fields. As careers in medicine, science, business, technology, and other areas have become more accessible, ASL has continued to grow—developing new vocabulary and concepts that reflect the contributions and expertise of Deaf professionals. Overall, this presentation emphasizes the importance of inclusive communication, equitable workplace practices, and the continued advancement of Deaf professionals across diverse career fields.
