Lit & Local is a public humanities partnership initiative that connects U-M scholars, students, writers, and Southeast Michigan communities through independent bookstores. As some of the few remaining hubs where people regularly gather to discuss books, ideas, history, identity, and culture, independent bookstores offer vital neighborhood-based spaces for conversation and connection. Through Lit & Local, the Institute aims to foster meaningful community dialogue, strengthen partnerships, and bring humanities engagement into local gathering spaces.
