Come From Away: From Broadway to Michigan
Cynthia K. Westphal Chair, Department of Musical Theatre and the Arthur and Martha Hearron Endowed Professor of Musical Theatre at the University of Michigan
Westphal has served on the faculty since 2004. A Broadway music director, conductor and keyboard player, her Broadway credits include The Lion King, A Christmas Story, Miss Saigon and The Gershwins’ Fascinating Rhythm. During a 2018–19 sabbatical, she directed the music for the first national tour of the Tony Award-winning Come From Away. She also conducted the national tour of A Christmas Story, toured as pianist with Andrea Bocelli, and has performed as a keyboardist on over a dozen Broadway national tours. Westphal has also developed new musicals with Glenn Frey of The Eagles and Graham Russell of Air Supply.
