Dean, School of Social Work and the Phillip Fellin Collegiate Professor of Social Work at the University of Michigan

Dean Angell will describe her background as a social work educator and scholar. She will talk about how U-M, a leader in social work education for more than a century, is building on its tradition of excellence through the School of Social Work’s high-impact research, diverse curriculum options and commitment to strong community collaboration. Founded as a distinct school in 1951, the school has graduated more than 18,000 students and has been consistently ranked #1 by U.S. News and World Report since 2012. Prior to becoming a dean, Angell conducted research and taught courses on behavioral health, focusing on serious mental illness and its intersection with substance abuse and the criminal justice system. Prior to joining U-M in 2022, Angell served as dean of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work. She is a Fellow and vice president-elect of the Society for Social Work and Research.
