Goitse (pronounced gwi-cha) is a Donegal Irish word meaning "come here." This band, whose members met as students at the University of Limerick, is rooted firmly within Irish tradition, but each member has achieved an individual fusion of traditional and contemporary styles. All are well known by themselves; fiddler Aine McGeeney has toured with Lord of the Dance, and Philadelphia-born multi-instrumentalist Conal O'Kane has studied and worked on both sides of the Atlantic. Put it all together with a big rhythmic orientation and the biggest jolt of youthful energy Irish music has seen in quite some time, and you've got all the ingredients for a winter evening of Celtic chemistry. The band's recent album, "Transformed," "sees Goitse transfer from the periphery to the big League," says Irish Music Magazine.
