Join us at Matthaei Botanical Gardens for a screening of Land of Canaan, a feature documentary exploring the relationship between Palestinian farmers, ancient olive trees, and the land and traditions that have sustained communities for generations.

The film follows Palestinian-American anthropologist and entrepreneur Dr. Nasser Abufarha as he returns to the West Bank, where challenges facing the olive harvest threaten farmers’ livelihoods and generations of ecological knowledge. Through his work with farming communities, Abufarha helps build a fair-trade network connecting Palestinian olive growers with international markets while supporting traditional agricultural practices, environmental stewardship, and cultural heritage.

Following the screening, Dr. Abufarha, the film’s protagonist and founder of Canaan Palestine and the Palestine Fair Trade Association, will join attendees for a Q&A and discussion.

The evening begins with light refreshments before the film. After the Q&A, guests are invited to spend time in the Conservatory to visit the olive tree housed there.
