Building Apple Silicon: A Journey of Innovation
Sribalan Santhanam (Sri), Vice President of Silicon Engineering, Apple
Abstract:
Custom silicon has become one of the most important drivers of innovation in modern computing and is the key to delivering game-changing performance, power efficiency, capabilities, and user experiences. Drawing on more than three decades in the semiconductor industry, Sri Santhanam, the Vice President of Silicon Engineering at Apple and a Michigan EECS alumnus, will reflect on Apple’s silicon journey and how it has shaped products across Apple’s entire ecosystem. As demand for chips surges and artificial intelligence transforms both silicon demand and design methodologies, the need for skilled engineers has never been greater. The continued advancement of custom silicon depends on our shared commitment to developing the talent that will drive the next wave of innovation.
Bio:
Sribalan Santhanam (Sri) is the vice president of Silicon Engineering at Apple. He has been at Apple since 2008 and is responsible for the design, development, and manufacturing of application processors and power management ICs. Sri leads a team of silicon and technology engineers who create breakthrough custom chips that power iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and more. Prior to Apple, he was the co-founder and vice president of engineering at P.A. Semi and held leadership roles in chip design at Broadcom, Sibyte, and Digital Equipment Corporation. Sri received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Anna University in 1987 and his master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Michigan in 1989.
