Chinese Songs and Music Today
The Confucius Institutes of the University of Michigan and Wayne State University present the global music program, Chinese Songs and Music Today, on Saturday, November 23 from 3 - 5 p.m. The event will take place at Ford Auditorium, Detroit School of Arts, 123 Selden Street in Detroit. Admission to this unique cultural event is free to all attendees with the general public strongly encouraged to attend.
Direct from Beijing, singers and musicians from the China Conservatory of Music will present traditional Chinese folk and instrumental music. This must see event is truly a unique opportunity to experience great music performed by virtuoso, native Chinese vocalists and musicians. Free parking is available at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra parking structure, located behind 3663 Woodward (entrance from Parsons Street between Woodward and Cass Avenues).
Founded on September 21, 1964, the China Conservatory of Music is the first institution in that country to specialize in the study of Chinese music focusing on performance, composition, theory and music technology. In addition, the Conservatory also offers training in other genres of music as well as music education. The Conservatory combined the resources of the Central Conservatory Chinese Music Department, Beijing Arts Academy Music Department, and China Music Research Institute, as well as bringing together renowned musicians and scholars in the field from across the country.
The Conservatory offers programs for secondary school students, undergraduates, research graduates, adults, as well as foreign exchange students. The institution also recruits students annually throughout the country, and admits foreign exchange students from all over the world.
