Gifts of Art presents Back Home in Earth’s Garden: Clay & Fibers
Susan Sutherland Barnes
Susan Sutherland Barnes has been exploring patterns in nature and the combining of clay and fibers for over thirty years. Her early background, in painting and printmaking and later a BFA in fibers from St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana, has fostered a unique perspective on working with clay. In this recent body of work, she continues to follow her interest in the leaf as an iconic motif and incorporates these explorations in a new group of pieces combining round reed basketry and stoneware. Sutherland Barnes recently returned to her home state of Michigan after twenty years away and now maintains a clay and fibers studio in Paw Paw, Michigan.
