Perspectives on Engineering and Disabilities: Clive D'Souza and David Chesney
Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) 40th Anniversary Event
Clive D'Souza is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering. Dr. D'Souza conducts research in ergonomics and human factors to address human performance, safety and inclusive (universal) design concerns in human-in-the-loop systems analysis and design. He has extensive experience in the design and conduct of experiments to evaluate and model performance, behavior and coping strategies of people with diverse functional abilities including wheelchair users, older adult users of walking aids, blind and visually impaired users for environmental design applications.
David Chesney is a lecturer in Computer Science and Engineering.
His sections of ENGR 100 are generally dedicated to "Gaming for the Greater Good," in which students develop video games with a focus on social good.
In 2010, some of his EECS 481 students developed an iPad application to enable people with cerebral palsy to send email. His students have also developed video games using Microsoft Kinect hardware with an intended therapeutic value for children on the autistic spectrum.
This presentation is part of a year-long series of events for the Services for Students with Disabilities 40th Anniversary.
