Hall of Fame Catcher Rick Ferrell, The Detroit Tigers and 20th Century Baseball

OLLI Study Group (50+)

We will view a presentation narrated by Rick's daughter, Kerrie Ferrell about his 66-year baseball career. He caught for 18 years for the Boston Red Sox and Washington Senators behind heroes such as Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, and for his brother, pitcher Wes Ferrell. He later became a Detroit Tigers coach, scout and general manager/vice president. He witnessed major changes such as racial integration, team expansion, the players' union, and long-term contracts. It is based on her book, "Rick Ferrell, Knuckleball Catcher: A Hall of Famer's Life Behind the Plate and in the Front Office" (with William Anderson).
