Equity Issues for Women in Higher Education

The Emergent Complexities of Social Identities, Pay Inequities and the Power of Women’s Groups

Presenter Penny A. Pasque is Associate Professor of Adult and Higher Education in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, Women's and Gender Studies, and the Center for Social Justice at the University of Oklahoma. She is also a visiting scholar at the University of Michigan with the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education and the Center for the Education of Women for the '13-'14 academic year.

The National Study on Women in Higher Education and Student Affairs includes a collectively-written diary, archives, focus groups and interviews with a diverse group of women leaders from across the country. Dr. Pasque’s feminist approach to the review of these materials highlights notions of pay inequity, intersectionality of identities, and the power of women’s groups in educational settings. In doing so, her research identifies areas influential to educational policy and programs that can increase access and equity for women in higher education.
