Title: Career Advisor
Term Limited Position – End Date 6/30/2015

Provide direct service (advising, interactive programming, mock interviews) in a large, comprehensive, fast-paced, career services office using i*Plan as a foundation for serving students. Assist students in efforts related to self-exploration, career exploration, advanced education, internship search and job search issues. Foster student learning, development, and enhanced educational experiences through direct service interventions, to guide students through all phases of their career development including actively engaging in their own learning.


Contribute to building positive campus community that affirms and values all members.


Student Development Through Direct Service

Ӣ Foster student learning, development, and enhanced educational experiences through direct service interventions (advising, interactive programming, mock interviews) to guide students through all phases of their career development including actively engaging in their own learning.


”¢ Using resource expertise and “I*plan” foundation, educate students regarding educational, experiential, and multimedia career information to aid career and educational planning and life choices. Includes gaining experience through student activities, community service, employment, research or creative projects, and experiential learning in multiple sectors (profit, not-for-profit, public service, arts, as examples).


Ӣ Assist students in developing lifelong skills to prepare them to manage their careers after graduation.


Ӣ Utilize current technologies and information management tools, demonstrating creativity in service delivery to benefit students and improve organizational effectiveness, including Career Center Connector (C3), C3 Resume Builder, LinkedIn, Twitter, blogging, etc.


Ӣ Create a positive learning environment for all students. Includes informed perspective regarding issues of race, ethnicity, gender orientation, sexual orientation, ability, and national status, as examples.


Ӣ Articulate, discuss, and teach the meaning of a liberal education and its role in developing an informed citizenry. Assist students in understanding the transferability of their academic coursework as they explore possible next steps.


Ӣ Support students to be successful in the implementation of their job/educational choices through resume and interview preparation, use of on and off-campus job search strategies, employer/school selection, and negotiation of acceptance.


Ӣ Implement intentionally-designed, educationally-driven interactive programs on such topics as i*Plan, interviewing, job and internship search, and graduate/professional school processes.


Ӣ Conduct individual presentations, coordination of panel presentations and/or electronic media. Includes providing off-site assistance to students in residence halls, fraternities and sororities, and student groups at weeknight and weekend meetings.


”¢ Coordinate career “immersion” experiences, designed to couple information with hands-on career focused experiential learning.


Ӣ Keep accurate and timely client notes and maintains confidentiality of client information.


Leadership:

Ӣ Assist in leading a project area to be determined based on office need. Examples of projects include; managing on-line program request process, supporting social media/blogging efforts, outreach to student organizations, assisting with on-campus recruiting and employer relations, developing resources (print/on-line), contributing to the pre-med/pre-health advising team, etc.


Ӣ Propose and implement marketing strategies to increase student participation in programs and to inform others in the campus community.


Ӣ Integrate programming components into other areas/services within the Career Center (e.g. job fairs, open houses).


Ӣ Actively pursue opportunities to involve the Career Center in high profile, campus-wide events (e.g. Dance Marathon, Welcome Week, Greek Week).


Ӣ Identify campus offices, academic departments and other stakeholders interested in engaging in programmatic efforts.

Ӣ Contribute to building positive campus community that affirms and values all members.


Ӣ Forward the mission and goals of unit and division within established set of organizational values.


Ӣ Promote the highest standards of the profession in accordance with the principles ethics, and standards of ACPA, NASPA, NACE, and CAS, and established good practice in Student Affairs.


Job Requirements:

Ӣ Bachelors Degree

Ӣ Demonstrated skill in working with students and engaging in group process and programming.

Ӣ Strong communication skills including verbal, writing and listening skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate well to staff and a diverse student body.

Ӣ Strong organization and program design skills and ability to accomplish multiple tasks autonomously.

Ӣ Demonstrated ability to work in a large, complex, fast-paced office.

Ӣ Ability to provide service within an office that places a high value on quality customer service, team orientation, intentional planning, continuous improvement and puts students at the center.

Ӣ Strong work ethic and ability to multi-task.

Ӣ Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and exercise sound decision making on relevant issues.

Ӣ Contribute to a diverse environment of colleagues and students representing diverse populations (e.g. nationality, race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, abilities, class, and other social identities).

Ӣ Familiarity with computers and software, and the ability to effectively integrate technology into service delivery.

Ӣ Ability to set expectations and achieve results while contributing to the harmony of the team.

Ӣ Interest in innovation in service delivery

Ӣ Interest and experience working individually and with small groups of students toward achieving goals.
