Guest Recital: Alan Huckleberry, piano, and Jason Sifford, piano

U-M alumnus Dr. Alan Huckleberry of the University of Iowa (MM ’01, DMA ’03) and Dr. Jason Sifford (DMA ’01), along with four University of Iowa piano students, will be performing Rzewski’s monumental variation set “The People United Will Never Be Defeated”. It was written in protest to the fascist coup of 1973 in Chile and is based upon a famous Chilean workers rights/union song. This piece consists of 36 variations, which are divided into 6 sets of 6 variations each. Each pianist will be performing one set each. Additionally, the group has set each variation to an image on the topic of human rights. These images will be projected during the performance, allowing the audience to visually follow the complex compositional structure of the piece.
