India's Religious Traditions and Their Global Impact
Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism. . .
. . . evolved in the Indian subcontinent over the last three thousand years. All three religions have common core beliefs with each having its own philosophical uniqueness. Hinduism and Buddhism spread through East and Southeast Asia and thrived during the first millennium. Hinduism mostly disappeared outside India while Buddhism thrived and remains a major faith today in East and Southeast Asia. Europe encountered Hinduism and Buddhism during the last three hundred years. The lectures will include the history, development and philosophies of these religions and their spread outside India, as well as their presence in the contemporary social and political scene.
