Banner Birthday! Poets and Patriots Recital: A Musical Celebration
Join us for a concert in honor of Francis Scott Key’s Star Spangled Banner on its 200th anniversary, performed by voice students of the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance and conducted by Jerry Blackstone of the University Musical Society.
After the world class performance, enjoy star-spangled birthday cupcakes on the Diag and learn a bit about how it came to be our national anthem. The U-M ROTC will close the event by raising the flag on the recently restored central campus flagpole, which originally came from the Chicago World’s Fair.
Allow time to view the adjacent exhibit, Banner Moments: The U.S. National Anthem in American Life.
