Since the early 1960s, Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks (and Lickettes) have deftly blended elements of swing, jazz, folk, country, "acid mariachi," and goodness knows what else to create the appealing sound he sometimes calls "Folk Jazz." The lyrics of his songs range from the simply sublime to the sublimely ridiculous. Dan Hicks & The Hot Licks recently released the album "Tangled Tales," their first album of original material since 2004's "Selected Shorts," and it shows Dan's free spirit in fine form. There'll also be plenty of other slightly off-kilter (but never off-key) material from a singer-songwriter-bandleader who's a true American original! You can come by and pick up a copy of the new "Best of Dan's 70th Birthday Celebration" album, recorded live at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco.
