REACT to FILM and MICHIGAN HACKERS Present: The Internet's Own Boy
WHAT:Come join REACT to FILM and MICHIGAN HACKERS for the first RtF screening of the 2014 - 2015 school year! We'll be screening The Internet's Own Boy at 8:00 p.m. in North Quad's Room 2435 on Monday, October 6th. This screening is sure to be awesome, and afterwards, a dialogue will be held where students and faculty can feel free to participate.ABOUT THE FILM:The Internet's Own Boy follows the story of programming prodigy and information activist Aaron Swartz. From Swartz's help in the development of the basic internet protocol RSS to his co-founding of Reddit, his fingerprints are all over the Internet. However, it was Swartz's groundbreaking work in social justice and political organizing combined with his aggressive approach to information access that ensnared him into a two-year legal nightmare.Sadly, Swartz's fight was one that would end with him taking his own life at the age of 26. Aaron's story touched a nerve with people far beyond the online communities in which he was a celebrity. The Internet's Own Boy is a personal story about what we lose when we are tone deaf about technology and its relationship to our civil liberties.VIEW TRAILER HERE: http://www.takepart.com/internets-own-boy
