Join us for an evening of great jazz featuring compositions and arrangements by guest artist, composer, and saxophonist Benny Golson. Golson, a NEA Jazz Master, is as renowned for his distinctive compositions and arrangements as for his innovative tenor saxophone playing. A prodigious composer, he has made major contributions to the world of jazz including jazz standards as “Killer Joe,” “I Remember Clifford,” “Along Came Betty,” “Stablemates,” “Whisper Not,” “Blues March,” “Five Spot After Dark,” and “Are You Real?”. Golson will join the U-M Jazz Ensemble to play his big band arrangements and will also perform with a faculty ensemble. The concert will feature the Latin Jazz Ensemble, Creative Arts Orchestra, an arrangement of one of Golson's compositions for chamber jazz ensemble with strings performed by student Clayton Hopkins, selected faculty ensembles, and other student jazz combos.
