Afghanistan–A Distant War
CMENAS Lecture Series
Robert Nickelsberg has been a photographer for TIME magazine for nearly 30 years. His work in Afghanistan has appeared on the New York Times Lens blog and his images have been published by Newsweek, the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, CNN, and NBC. His photographs have been exhibited at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the International Center of Photography in New York, the New American Foundation in Washington, DC and most recently at a 2014 exhibition held at Queensborough Community College.
In this lecture, Nickelsberg will discuss his most recent volume of photographs: Afghanistan –A Distant War. The images in the book are captioned with places, dates, and Nickelsberg’s own extensive commentary. Timely and important, the book serves as a reminder that Afghanistan and the rest of the world remain inextricably linked, no matter how much we long to distance ourselves from its painful realities.
