BIG DATA & DATA MINING
H. V. Jagadish, Director, Software Systems Research Laboratory, U-M
Vast amounts of data are collected every day, from sensor networks in the sea and the sky, from ubiquitous surveillance cameras, from cell phones as they move, from transactions at the point of sale, from high throughput scientific experiments, from posts on social media, and so on. There is tremendous opportunity to gain insights from these data, but there are also many challenges to address. These challenges include not just data privacy but also scale and heterogeneity, actionability of insights obtained, and more. This talk will describe a few of the many such issues.
Dr. Jagadish is well-known for his broad-ranging research on information management, and has 200 major papers and 37 patents.
