Story greatly influences the clay sculptures of Leanne Schnepp. By combining animal and human forms and characteristics, she tells stories of connection and transformation. Humans, coyotes, frogs, and birds interact and “converse,” and mischievous children become monsters and tumble about. There is a sense of play and whimsy in the work and the opportunity for viewers to use their imagination. Schnepp earned her BFA at Michigan State University and has worked as an artist and teacher for the past 20 years. She currently lives and works in East Lansing.
