Shayne Davidson is an experienced genealogist who received an MFA from the University of Michigan. Her exhibition consists of 17 life-sized colored pencil portraits based on rare, identified photos of a group of African-American men who served together for the Union in the 25th United States Colored Troops, Company G. The portraits incorporate portions of the men’s military records in the artwork, and a mini-biography of the soldier, written by the artist, accompanies each portrait. Davidson also studied painting and drawing at Cooper Union in New York City and received a BFA from California Institute of the Arts.
