The Department of Dance presents a double bill concert by Patty L. Solórzano and Eryn Rosenthal.
In Footprints (There are Sweeter Reasons), Solórzano uses text, movement, and video to explore the relationship and impact of human behavior to the natural environment and the pressing need for behavior change in order to address the current environmental crisis. Featuring music by Chris Sies and costumes by Katherine Nelson. Figure/Ground, choreographed and directed by Rosenthal in collaboration with U-M alumna Jennifer Harge (BFA’08) and Bubu Mazibuko (SABC: Gaz’lam, Yizo Yizo), is a response to her research with anti-Apartheid activists in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The work melds movement, text, and freedom songs with music by South African composer and vocalist Gabisile Motuba and her jazz quartet The Trip.
