— IS THE INTERSECTION SAFE?

The legal standard of care — that benchmark against which a physician’s care is measured in the courtroom for medical malpractice claims — is defined as “what a reasonable prudent practitioner would have done under the same or similar circumstances.” The speaker will describe the dilemma, the counter-productive impact of current medical malpractice laws and how they chill efforts to deliver the latest and best medical care, and some possible ways of solving the problem. Prior to coming to U of M, Dr. Boothman was a trial lawyer in Michigan and Ohio for 22 years defending doctors, professional groups and a variety of health systems.
