A Brief History of Christian Icons

From art to holy icons

world world
world
View a well-researched powerpoint show that tracks the development of these icons from the earliest beginnings of Christianity. When, how, and why certain strains of this art metamorphosed into the holy icons of Christianity's eastern orthodox denominations will be a central theme. The final session at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Ann Arbor will present a unique opportunity to see new icons freshly installed. Mike Kapetan is an artist who created liturgical images in nearly fifty churches and one synagogue. He has a degree in Art History from Harvard and an MFA in sculpture from Michigan.
This class for those over 50 meets Fridays, March 6 - March 27.
