Dispute Resolution in Vietnam
Fridays At Noon Lecture Series
Speaker: Pierre Landry, University of Pittsburgh
Based of the results of the” Justice Index” jointly produced by CECODES and the UNDP Office in Vietnam, Landry analyzes the paradox of Vietnamese institutional development by which vast improvements in the security of property rights along with institutional innovation are not being matched empirically by popular reliance on formal legal institutions. Specifically, Landry analzyes how disputes related to land are being handled in order to show that disputants are overwhelmingly predisposed to use administrative dispute resolution mechanisms, even in areas where access to lawyers and legal aid have improved.
