This lecture will suggest that a reconstructive, anti-reductionist approach that tries to understand protagonists on their own terms also offers a powerful means of explaining change over time--not only religious change, but historical change in general. Professor Gregory will offer his reflections in relationship to his books, Salvation at Stake and The Unintended Reformation.
