FDR: PREPARING THE COUNTRY TO GO TO WAR
Randy Hotton, Vietnam War Pilot & Aviation Historian
During the years prior to our entry into World War II, President FDR was facing a country that was largely against our involvement. The America First Committee, Charles Coughlin, and Charles Lindbergh were very vocal in their opposition. FDR moved slowly but persistently to overcome this resistance. We will focus on the importance of pre-war mobilization and the world and national events which led to the decision to build 500,000 airplanes a year at Ypsilanti’s Willow Run Bomber Plant.
A skilled flight trainer, Randy piloted the P-3 Orion airplane in the Vietnam War, and now flies the Yankee Air Museum’s B-17 bomber.
