Celebrity in Chief: A History of the Presidents and the Culture of Stardom
Ken Walsh, award-winning White House Correspondent, presidential historian, and author of Celebrity in Chief, will discuss how popular culture has shaped presidential politics in recent decades, and identify those men who qualified as celebrities in their own time and place, and those who fell short in their star appeal.
Walsh will discuss how the Obamas reached the point of the biggest political stars to occupy the White House, as well as taking a detailed and comprehensive look at the history of America’s presidents since the beginning of the Republic and the ways various presidents mastered the media of their time.
Celebrity in Chief argues that modern presidents need to capitalize and build on their stardom and fame in order to rally public support for their agendas so that they can get things done.
Free Admission; Free Parking; Book sales/signing and reception follow program.
