It’s the 25th anniversary of the founding of The Raisin Pickers, the Manchester-based string band that's cultivated a loyal following in southeastern Michigan with its deft mix of rustic Appalachian music, swingy jazz, bluegrass, and, lately, some Louisiana sounds. This band comes from the banks of the River Raisin with eclectic string band music, lots of original songs, and a whole host of instruments. They understand where traditional music comes from and what their role is in carrying it forward. The Raisin Pickers are Carol Wells Palms (vocals, fiddle, and bass), Mark Palms (vocals, banjo, and guitar), and David Mosher (vocals, mandolin, fiddle, and guitar). They come to The Ark with a new release, "Ghosts of the Southern Swamp."
