Azalea Bonsai in Bloom at Matthaei Botanical Gardens

Featuring a collection of satsuki azalea bonsai in bloom on loan from renowned Ohio collector and U-M alumnus Melvyn Goldstein. Satsuki azalea (Rhododendron indicum) are one of the most popular and prized species used for bonsai in Japan and have been so there for at least 400 years. There are more than 3,000 varieties. Some of the plants have different-colored flowers on the same tree, and many flowers themselves are multi-colored. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see these bonsai azalea in bloom at Matthaei Botanical Gardens.
