Stealing Buddha's Dinner is a memoir chronicling author Bich Minh Nguyen's migration from Vietnam in 1975 and her coming of age in Grand Rapids, Michigan in the 1980s. Along the way, she struggles to construct her own cultural identity from a menagerie of uniquely American influences. Today, U-M English Professor Peter Ho Davies, author of The Welsh Girl, will draw on his own background (he was born in Coventry, England, to Welsh and Chinese parents) to talk to Nguyen about writing, family, and, of course, American junk food.
Stealing Buddha's Dinner is the 2009-2010 Michigan Humanities Council Great Michigan Read Book.
Peter Ho Davies will be in the Library Gallery talking to Bich Minh Nguyen live via two- way webcast from West Lafayette, Indiana.
