RESEARCH BREAKTHROUGHS IN THE DIAGNOSIS, TREATMENT, AND PREVENTION OF ALZHEIMER’S
Bruno Giordani, Professor of Psychology, U of M

Over the past few years, there have been dramatic advances in
understanding dementia, and particularly Alzheimer’s disease, with new techniques
being introduced for identification and treatment of persons in the earliest stages of memory loss and even many years before the appearance of symptoms. We will review some of this new information and also discuss what these results may tell us about how each of us can maintain a healthy brain.
Bruno Giordani is Professor and Chief Psychologist in the U-M Department of Psychiatry and also holds appointments in Neurology and Psychology and the School of Nursing. In addition, he is the University’s Faculty Ombuds and the Associate Director of the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Center.
This is the first in a six-lecture series. The subject is Biomedical Breakthroughs: The Future is Here. The next lecture will be February 26, entitled COCHLEAR IMPANTS: NEW TECHNOLOGY, APPLICATIONS, AND OUTCOMES.
