Among Italian music publications, Rappresentatione di anima e di corpo (1600) was by far the most extravagantly innovative edition of music printed up to its time. Composer Emilio de’ Cavalieri (c.1550-1602), like Carlo Gesualdo, was an aristocrat and musician who defied contemporary convention.
