Fiction in English Today
Discussion of Seven Novels
Long for probing discussions on successful and compelling works of award-winning fiction in English today? We'll discuss themes, associations and questions of writing craft. Course texts include The Sympathizer (Nguyen), All the Light We Cannot See (Doerr), The Narrow Road to the Deep North (Flanagan), A Brief History of Seven Killings (James), acclaimed young people's novels Wonder (Palacio) and The Fault in Our Stars (Green) and Family Furnishings (Munro). Having learned English by devouring fiction, the instructor knows how compelling a thoughtful and rigorous fictional work can be. Amrita Dhar is a Ph.D. candidate in English at UM. This class for adults over 50 meets every other Thursday through December 22nd. No class on November 24.
