University Philharmonia Orchestra
Christopher James Lees, conductor. Juxtaposing traditional forms with music drama and vivid color, the University Philharmonia Orchestra presents a program traversing the extremes of 19th Century Romanticism. Schubert\&##39;s symphony, composed at a mere 18 years old, and Wagner\&##39;s first real operatic success share the same key, but live in opposite ends of the expressive spectrum. Rimsky-Korsakov\&##39;s beloved celebratory work, Capriccio Espagnol, captures lively and virtuosic Spanish influence. PROGRAM: Wagner - Overture to Rienzi; Schubert - Symphony No. 3; Villa-Lobos - Fantasia for Saxophone Katherine Weintraub, saxophone (2011 Concerto Competition Winner); Rimsky-Korsakov - Capriccio Espagnol
