Avant Garden: Weaving Fashion and Nature Together
Avant Garden explores plants’ long-standing role as the versatile source of raw materials for textiles and the inspiration for the designs, colors, and shapes that fashion takes. Plants in the conservatory at Matthaei Botanical Gardens are highlighted along with their historical and cultural roles as they relate to cultivation, sustainability, textiles, colors, and design. Also included are "living dresses" made from plant material such as bark, evergreen boughs, moss, succulents, and others. Exhibit also includes seasonal flower display plus programming for the whole family. Free admission. Matthaei Botanical Gardens is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve. Open New Year's Day 10 am-4:30 pm.
