Science Café: Polar Opposites?

Exploring Art and Science at the North and South Poles

At Conor O'Neill's Traditional Irish Pub, 318 South Main Street, Ann Arbor. University of Michigan Physics professor Jeff McMahon has travelled to the South Pole to build a telescope to study cosmic microwave background radiation – a relic of the Big Bang. U-M Art and Design Professor Osman Kahn travelled to North Pole to create art that evokes a sense of desperation. Join us as we discuss how art and science help us see ourselves and our place in the world. How are these perspectives different? Can they be similar? Join us for hors d'oeuvres at 5:30 and a brief presentation at 6:00 pm, followed by discussion. Participants must be 21 to purchase alcoholic beverages. Everyone is welcome and invited to purchase additional food and beverages. Sponsored by the “What Makes Life Worth Living?” Theme Semester of the U-M College of Literature, Science, and the Arts.
