Fedele F. and and Iris M. Fauri Memorial Lecture
Can Class Action Lawsuits be a catalyst for change in child welfare? What can the Michigan case tell us?
The University of Michigan School of Social Work will be holding the Fedele F. and Iris M. Fauri Memorial Lecture on October 25, 2010 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM at the School. The Fedele F. and Iris M. Fauri Memorial Lecture Series on child welfare is presented annually in recognition of former University of Michigan Dean and Vice President Fedele F. Fauri and his wife. Dean Fauri's leadership and accomplishments in the field of child welfare spanned nearly fifty years. This lecture series is made possible by gifts from alumni, faculty and friends , and is intended to serve as a forum for the discussion of ideas and proposals to further enhance the well-being of young people.
This year's lecture is entitled "Can Class Action Lawsuits be a catalyst for change in child welfare? What can the Michigan Case tell us?" In February, 2009, the U-M SSW Children, Youth and Family Interest Group sponsored a Collaboratory to examine both the Lawsuit filed by Children's Rights against Michigan's Foster Care system and the Settlement Agreement. This year's Fauri Memorial Lecture will examine the progress toward Settlement goals. Using both information from the Federal monitor's reports and their experience, the panel members will provide an assessment of Michigan's progress in implementing the Settlement Agreement. Panelists include: Kathryne A. O'Grady, J.D., Sara Bartosz, J.D., Vivek S. Sankaran, J.D., and Kathleen Coulborn Faller, Ph.D., A.C.S.W., D.C.S.W.
