Victor Lieberman is the recipient of the 2014 Golden Apple Award, an annual award granted by students for the best teacher at the University of Michigan. He graduated first in his class from Yale University and received his doctorate from the University of London. His course on the History of the Arab-Israeli Conflict is one of the largest at the University of Michigan. He presents contrasting viewpoints for Arabs and Israelis with equal sympathy for each party. His books have also won prizes from the Association for Asian Studies and the World History Association. The chief journal of history, The American Historical Review, has described his recent two-volume study, Strange Parallels, as the most important work of history produced so far this century. He will compare anti-Semitism in Europe, particularly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with contemporary expressions around the world of anti-Semitism and anti- Zionism.
