At the center of the Toronto band Great Lake Swimmers like the songs and vocals of singer-songwriter Tony Dekker, who says he's been influenced by Gram Parsons and Hank Williams. The band, which includes guitars, banjo, keyboards, bass, and sometimes a harmonium, alo carries overtones of several generations of Americana and Canadiana, stretching back from Sufjan Stevens and Bonnie "Prince" Billy all the way to Neil Young. This band's diverse fan base includes Feist, Robert Plant, and NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, as well as listeners who flocked to Great Lake Swimmers concerts when the band toured in China. The band's lastest full-length release, "A Forest of Arms," was recorded in a variety of nontraditional locations, and they also have a recent EP, "Swimming Away." Pittsburgh songwriter Brooke Annibale opens.
