The Clements Library was designed by noted Detroit architect Albert Kahn and constructed through a gift from U-M alumnus and regent William L. Clements. It opened in 1923 with the gift of Clements’ extraordinary Americana collection — 20,000 volumes of rare books, 2,000 volumes of early newspapers, several hundred maps, and the papers of Lord Shelburne, the British Prime Minister who negotiated the peace ending the Revolutionary War. With extraordinary holdings of primary sources on all aspects of the American experience prior to 1900, the Clements is a destination for scholars and student researchers. The Library has recently reopened after a $17 million renovation and expansion project. Join us on Friday, April 7, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. to view the exhibits in the Avenir Foundation Room or register for a behind-the-scenes tour at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., or 3 p.m.

Please submit a separate registration form for each person planning to attend the tour so that we may plan accordingly. For registration information, as well as further information about the tour, please visit our A-maizing Building Tours Webpage.

Registered guests should check in at the rear entrance of the building at the glass doors.
