Posthuman Scenarios in Victor Pelevin
Sofya Khagi, Associate Professor of Slavic Languages and Literatures
Please join us on Wednesday, April 5, 6-8 pm, as
Associate Professor Sofya Khagi presents:
“Posthuman Scenarios in Victor Pelevin”
This talk knits together a number of Pelevin’s works from the 1990s to the present, using the prism of posthumanism. It analyzes Pelevin’s representation of the human and the social collective a) in biomorphic and zoomorphic terms b) in terms of machinery. Both scenarios, animalistic and mechanistic, allow the writer to explore his core problematic—that of (un)freedom in contemporaneity.
___
This will be a colloquium in our usual format, starting with a light supper followed
by the presentation and open-ended discussion in 3308 MLB.
If you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to attend this event, please email slavic@umich.edu or call 734-764-5355 by 3/31/2017. Please be aware that advance notice is necessary as some accommodations may require more time for the University to arrange.
